South Australia priority occupations for 2024-2025

What occupations are South Australia looking to nominate? 

The South Australian government were recently in the UK.

Representatives from the SA government held a ‘Move to South Australia’ information and networking session on 3 June 2024 in London.

They also met with us in person in Edinburgh.

The aim of the information session, and our meeting, was to reinforce the UK market as a priority for their sponsored skilled migration program for the 2024 to 2025 financial year.

They also shared the virtues of the state. It’s vibrant economy, enviable lifestyle and as a great work place for applicants with the right expertise, experience and skills.

As detailed on the attached invite, the in-demand occupations & trades are in the following:

  • Construction
  • Medical
  • Education
  • ICT and
  • Engineering

In particular candidates with construction or trades experience were of critical need!

They shared some projects that were of particular focus for SA, and the need for the above skilled migrants. These projects were the:

  • Osborne Naval Shipyard
  • Major Projects in Whyalla
    • Hydrogen Jobs plan
    • GFG Alliance (“Green steel”)
    • Northern Water Supply (desalination plant)
    • Alligator Energy
  • New Women’s and Children’s Hospital

Whilst the 2024-25 South Australia skills list hasn’t been published as of yet, it will in the new financial year. In addition to the above occupations, we were advised there should be some other occupations too.

Migrate to Queensland 2024-25

QLD closes program for 2023/24 

As of today, 10 May 2024, Migration Queensland has closed its state nominated skilled visa program for the 2023-24 financial year (FY).

Applicants will need to submit a new Expression of Interest (EOI) once the Queensland program opens up for the 2024-25 program year. The new Australian financial year starts 1st July, 2024.

There is no indication at present what occupations will be on the Queensland Skilled Occupation List (QSOL) for 2024-25. However the recent  QSOL may provide some guidance.

The QSOL is divided into two. Applicants in Australia . As well as applicants outside Australia.

To be considered for nomination Queensland will require applicants to have an occupation on the appropriate list, meet any specific occupation requirements (e.g. years of experience, english language ability, registration) as well as meet the required settlement funds.

Offshore applicants that meet the Queensland requirements, and who have listed Queensland as their preferred state in their GSM EOI  will need to be invited to apply for state nomination. They will then have 14 days to prove they meet the requirements to be formally nominated.

This includes evidence of their skills assessment, English language tests. settlement finds and work experience.

State/Territory nominated visas are reopening

Australian visas update – August 2022

The states & territories have been provided some of 2022-23 visa allocations and are opening up nomination for the following visas: 

  • Skilled – Nominated (Subclass 190)
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (Subclass 491)
  • Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) (Subclass 188)

South Australia open up skilled migration program further – February 2022

South Australia add another 259 occupations to offshore program 

In a sign that Australia is opening up its borders, and skilled migration, South Australia (SA) have added a further 259 occupations to its state nomination program.

South Australian migration

This follows SA making over 90 occupations available to offshore applicants in September & November 2021.

The announcement means that applicants who have obtained a skills assessment and lodged an Expression of Interest (EOI) can Register their Interest to be nominated by SA for the following visas:

  • Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190) Visa
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (Subclass 491) Visa

Depending on the occupation there may be other requirements that need to be met –  such as years of experience & english language ability.

The 259 occupations cover health care, trades, construction, IT and business. This is in addition to engineering occupations that were previously added.

Following SA opening up 70 occupations to offshore applicants in September, they are now opening up further.

Queensland opens skilled nomination program …

Skilled Migration to Queensland 

Queensland has finally opened its skilled nomination program to skilled workers living in Queensland.

The skilled visa program is currently  closed to offshore applicants. This will be reviewed in December 2021.

Eligible applicants can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to be nominated by Queensland for either the

  • Subclass 190 – Skilled Nominated (Permanent) visa
  • Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa

Eligibility criteria  

DHA Criteria

To be eligible for Queensland Nomination an applicant must meet the DHA criteria:

  • Meet the points-test of 65 or higher
  • have a postive skills assessment
  • be under 45 years of age
  • meet the English language requirements for the points test, or skills assessment authority

Migration Queensland criteria requires;

  • a points test result of 80 for Subclass 190 visas or 65 points for the Subclass 491
  • an occupation* on the DHA list of eligible skilled occupations
  • have proficient english
  • Subclass 190 applicants to provide evidence of 6 months work experience  (minimum 35 hours per week) in your nominated occupation in Queensland immediately prior to submitting your EOI
  • Subclass 491 applicants to provide evidence 3 months full-time work experience in your nominated occupation in Regional** Queensland immediately prior to submitting your EOI
  • provide evidence the work is ongoing for a further 12 months
  • commit to living and working in Queensland for
    • 2 years for a Subclass 190 visa
    • 3 years for a Subclass 491 visa
